“Thank you, all!” Korvina said as she blew kisses after her third encore. “I love you all. You’re my best audience ever. Much better than those gnomes in Iowa.”

Another golden mist filled the stage and covered her. Her shadow remained for several seconds before it disappeared.

Raine blew out a breath and shook her head. “That was great.”

Adrien frowned. “Was it, though? Much of it was magical in nature. It was all about manipulating us.”

Cameron blinked his yellow eyes. They’d been yellow for much of the concert, but he never seemed agitated or out of control. He squeezed them shut and took a deep breath before he opened them again, their color now back to normal.

“I don’t know if I like someone to mess with my emotions like that,” the shifter growled.

Philip laughed. “Come on, dude. That’s what all concerts are. Costumes, dancers, the music. It’s all about messing with you to make you feel something. She’s simply more direct about it. I agree with Raine. I thought it was great.”

Evie wiped a few tears away. “I wish she hadn’t done another sad song at the end.”

William gave her a hug.

Raine stood. “We should see if we can find Hap. I want to thank him for inviting us. There was no way we’d have been able to see this without his help.”

Sara nodded. “Good plan.”

They waited for the crowd to disperse before they approached the wizard bouncer.

He narrowed his eyes on Raine. “You can’t ask for a refund. You didn’t even pay anything.”

“I don’t want a refund.” She smiled. “We wanted to talk to Hap.”

The wizard frowned and exhaled an annoyed sigh. “Don’t think you’ll get an autograph from Korvina simply because you’re friends with Hap. Stay here.” He muttered under his breath as he stomped toward a door leading backstage.

A minute later, the door flew open and Hap stormed out, his whiskers and tail twitching. “This is outrageous, ridiculous, and contemptible,” he shouted and shook his little fist.

The bouncer stepped into the doorway and tossed a black leather bag in front of the ferret. “You might as well take it since you took everything else, you thieving little rat.”

“You furless jerk!” Hap replied. He followed up with a string of invectives that made Raine blush.

The bouncer glared at the ferret and slammed the door shut.

Hap groaned and fell to his knees. “An honest ferret never gets a break.”
